My landlady’s cat Sophy got hit by a car and both of her hind legs are now broken.

My landlady doesn’t have much income and this cat’s only 6 months old.

We’d both hate to see Sophy put down.

If you’d like to help, please share this and I’d appreciate it.

If you’d like to donate, you can do so through paypal.  Since my landlady doesn’t really do computers so much, I’m using my cosplay paypal page’s paypal email, which is;
loki.surely.hates.you@gmail.com

(unfortunately named, I know but I was more focused on being funny than helpful when I made it)

So, anything helps.  I appreciate you guys taking the time to read this.

Sophy Update: Well, she’s definitely got two broken femurs.

Good news: She’s not going to die of broken legs
Bad news: She may lose one leg depending on what the surgeon says tomorrow.

I was hoping there would be one bad break and one that could just kind of heal up but it looks like we need two leg surgeries for Sophy.

Her right femur snapped off at the knee. That’s going to be the expensive one.

Her left femur got it’s neck bent up wear it meets the pelvis. It’s actually a pretty simple surgery to fix this one but it’ll still be more than $1,000.

So… if the right break is irreparable, Sophy may become a tripod kitty.

For anyone just tuning in, Sophy is not my cat. She’s the 6 month old cat belonging to the landlady of my apartment. The landlady basically works in exchange for an apartment. There’s nothing in her budget for cat repair.

So, that’s why I’m calling out to all of you to share this post and see if we can pull together enough funds to save Sophy’s leg.

The paypal account you can pitch into is:
loki.surely.hates.you@gmail.com

Which is a terrible email for a charitable cause but… it’s what I got so I hope you won’t be too mad at the email to help a cat in need.

We’re almost at $1,500 in donations since noon today because… you guys are miracle angel babies and I owe you all a debt of gratitude for being loving, caring, compassionate human beings.

The operation’s looking like it might end up around $4,000 but… that’s not set in stone.

Please keep sharing. You guys have made something incredible happen already. Let’s see if we can save a leg for Sophy.

Sophy is definitely getting both of her femurs operated on tomorrow at the Echo Park Veterinary Hospital.

The estimate we’ve been given for the surgery is $3,500

Our current standing on the paypal fundraiser is $2,233.79

I’ve reached out to a few animal charity organizations who help with medical costs in hopes of filling the gaps but I’m not convinced that they’ll get back to me in time.

Thanks again to everyone who has already donated and shared.  Please keep doing so.  Sophy’s going to be a complete cat thanks to you guys and your astounding generosity.

If you’d like to donate to the last bit of Sophy’s surgery costs, please go to paypal and send any amoutn (as a GIFT, not a payment to avoid unnecessary fees) to the following email.

Thank you thank you thank you.

Ok.

It’s Friday night.

Sophie is staying overnight at the vet’s.

The surgeon couldn’t make it to her today so she’ll get her operation tomorrow (Saturday) morning.

They surgeon’s estimate was $3,500.00.  That was paid on my credit card.

The paypal account is currently at 2,578.79 so we’re close.

Once the suregry is done, she’ll be coming home on Sunday morning.

The doctor said he is optimistic that the procedure will be free of complications.

Sophie is home!

I called the vet this morning and they told me everything had gone fine and that she was ready for pickup.

When I went to get my landlady, she practically fell over trying to get her shoes on so we could get down there.

When we got to the vet, it was full of dogs that I wanted to pet but I did not pet the dogs because they are not my dogs but I wanted to pet them.

Doc gave us some antibiotic juice and some pain med juice and Sophy now has a big stupid looking cast and a cone for a while.

We’re going to do a follow up appointment on Tuesday but it seems like everybody is pretty optimistic about her condition.

You guys made this happen.  Everyone who donated.  Everyone who shared.  You’re all great people with great hearts and I don’t know why you follow a grumpy jerk like me but you saved a cat’s legs and really, a cat’s life.

Donations are at

$3,262.52 with another $188.73 pending.

That’s $3451.25 out of the $3,500 for the operation and the $245(ish) for additional fees (X-rays and initial diagnosis costs).  If anything else comes in, I’ll put it toward that but once the Paypal reaches 3,700, I’ll be hitting the “refund” button.  If you want to chip in for that last little bit, you can go to paypal and aim the donation to the following email:

She’s so mad right now…. oh man.

I’ll keep giving updates on Sophy over the next few weeks as her cast comes off and stuff.

Sophy had a quick follow up at the vet today and he said that she should be doing just fine.

Her operation scars look healthy.  She’s active and eating/ drinking well.

My landlady has kicked her husband out of the bedroom to sleep on the couch so that Sophy can sleep in the bed.

She hasn’t done much pooping, so the doctor gave her a stool softener.  That’s about the biggest concern we have.

She’s only got one more week until we take her cast off and she’ll be walking around on her own.

As a matter of fact, the doc says she should be practicing walking every day even with the cast on, so Sopy is technically going to be back on her feet for several minutes (cumulatively) over the next few weeks.

My landlady said that it was her birthday on Saturday (The day before the surgery) and this was the greatest birthday gift she could have ever gotten.

She’s doing just fine.  Her butt looks funny.  Here’s a picture of Sophy with a balloon.

Also, on the money front, we’ve raised enough money to cover the entirety of the surgery plus another $70.00 to put toward the x-rays and initial pain treatment.

That’s 3,571.25.  Incredible.

If I happen to get another $130.00 to cover the remainder of those costs, I’ll accept them but I’ll be hitting the “refund” button for anything beyond that.

Thank all of you guys so much.  I’ll be posting a few more times to show Sophy without her cast on and probably once or twice beyond that.  You saved the life and the legs of a really beautiful animal.  I hope you’re all as proud as I am.

If anyone is wondering how Sophy is doing…

My landlady just sent these photos.  She’s doing well and getting around just fine.
